How to Get into Magic: The Gathering Affordably in Baltimore

This may be a strange way to start this post off, but I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh. I LOVED Yu-Gi-Oh. The anime captivated me, the game was fun to play, etc. 

Then came along Magic The Gathering.

Earlier this year, I played my first game of Commander Magic with a deck I put together from the bulk we had around the shop. A deck full of birds, inspired by my love for the Norse Goddess Freyja, who is often associated with birds (and cats). This got me into Magic, and keeps me fine-tuning my deck, eager that every Wednesday night that we hold casual Commander, hoping I can win with my silly little guys against other Baltimore-native players! This was my commander:

With this commander, I stacked my deck with cards that would give +1/+1 counters as well as cards that would create more bird tokens/card draws. I originally wanted to use more Kaldheim cards for the Fortell cards, as I have Vega the Watcher in my deck but decided against it. It genuinely works the way I want it to, and people rarely have flying or cards with reach so it helps since combat calculations confuse me. (Yu-Gi-Oh rules ingrained in my brain.)

The point I’m trying to get at is I started with nothing but an interest in the card art/type because it related to something I liked. That’s all you need.

But Magic cards can get expensive, right?

That’s why I made it so anyone can come in and make a deck/stack (I won’t count how many cards haha) from our bulk for only $15 flat. Our bulk is mostly sorted by set, and it doesn’t matter how long you take. We’ll even sit down and help you if needed- if not, a nice chat is always great! This brings me to our next opportunity, new players. We’re more than willing to help new players get into the game affordably this way, and even teach you how to play through some low power practice games!I do enjoy having you guys around, and although a short read, I (we) appreciate all your support and passion for games. You deserve to have fun!
