I’m no stranger to farming sims. In fact, tycoons and simulators are absolutely my JAM! I’ve played Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, etc. Seeds of Calamity surprised me. To have a whole new town to interact with that seemingly existed way before I took control of my character is refreshing. I won’t spoil too much, but the game gives a nice cinematic recap of the Great Calamity and how the town is slowly rebuilding after the war.

There’s incredible background music, and the UI is easy to understand, in my opinion. I’m already having a blast. The NPCs of the town feel lively and interesting.

Their introductions are brief. As I’ve only played for a single day so far, I really hope their personalities develop.
The questbook, including quests relating to different characters’ stories, is great, too. The game drew me in immediately, and I’m excited to uncover more of what the world has to offer.

There are your typical farming sim aspects, fishing, mining, foraging, and of course, farming. I’m a sucker for fishing mechanics in games, and Seeds of Calamity absolutely nailed it!

Instead of just clicking/holding a button, there’s a skill check similar to the ones in Dead by Daylight or those “Break the Lock” mobile games.

Character customization is lacking, with the hairstyles, accessories, and outfits getting the job done. However, I enjoy that you get your furry friend almost immediately. You have the option between a kitty, a chicken, a rabbit/fox, and a bear/dog (hard to tell).

I named my companion after my cat, naturally. They’re adorable, and also can morph into your quest book!

In conclusion, with the small cast of characters, neat game mechanics, and great UI, Seeds of Calamity is certainly worth playing. I was gifted a key to review the game via Keymailer, but you can try Seeds of Calamity on Steam here:
